Emojiathon/June Want to Read

Emojiathon is a pretty laid-back read-a-thon related to Emoji's. The Twitter is Here where you can find all the information. I failed at it a few months ago (reading slump) but plan to try again.

Right now i'm about to start Sweetly by Jackson Pearce which I only mention because it's May 30th and past 5pm and I haven't started it yet...so i'll probably be reading it into June but hopefully i'll finish it in early June.

So here is what i'm hoping to read in June and down below the pictures i'll link to them on Goodreads as well as say what Emoji's they will go with. You only need 4 and I have more than 4 so i'm hopeful I can do at least 4 of them.

Chobits, Omnibus 1 and Chobits, Ombibus 2 by CLAMP

That is all 8 volumes of Chobits, which I plan to count each of the 8 volumes separately on Goodreads, because reasons. I'm behind on where I want to be with reading graphic novels, so assuming I like Chobits, this will really help! The first volume will be for the Emoji "read a book that you’re annoyed at yourself because you haven’t read it yet" (I can't seem to get the emoji's so you can see the google doc linked on the twitter, which is linked above). My spouse introduced me to Chobits awhile ago, and he has the anime but I want to read the manga first so I got it and I still haven't read it...and he wants to know what I think and thinks i'll like it, and I do to, so why haven't I read it yet?

IF I like it and continue with the series I can use 2, 3 and 4 for the Emoji's "read a book in under 24 hours", "freebie! Read any book", and possibly, from the sounds of it, "read a book that’s like candy to you (a guilty pleasure)". Though I have enough books that I don't *need* any of those but why not count them for what I can, if I can?

The Halloween Children by Brian James Freeman and Norman Prentiss

I got this from Netgalley, and I had to request it and got approved, so i'd consider this being able to be used for the Emoji "read a book that was gifted to you"

Food Wars!, Vol 1 by Yuto Tsukuda

Using for the Emoji "read a book you’ve been anticipating" as I have heard good things about it and it sounds very interesting. I should also be able to read this in less than 24 hours which is also an Emoji.

Jaws by Peter Benchley

I've never seen the movie, have heard good things about the book, and I want to read it before I watch it. It's also on my Top 15 to read list for this year. I can also use it for the Emoji "read a thriller or horror"

Cinnamon & Cigarettes by Samantha Kate

Also on my Top 15 list to read this year. Also an F/F romance with a bisexual main character and it's LGBT+ pride month! Also can be used for the Emoji "read a book about a marginalized group"

Star-Crossed by Barbara Dee

This is a middle grade book about a bisexual main character. Having known i'm bisexual since I was 13, in Middle School, and being #StillBisexual at 28, this book makes me very happy just to know it exists! That something like this finally exists and is oh-so important! So with that i'm going to use it for the Emoji "read a book that makes you happy just thinking about it"

Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde
2 protagonists. Taylor is fat, has anxiety and is on the autism spectrum. Charlie is bisexual and Chinese Australian. It's own voices for Austism and bisexuality. Being used for the Emoji "read a romance/contemporary" Also my Candybook Land pick for the month.
"Month: June
Place#: 5 Orange
Task: read a book with a romance
Book: Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde"

Mean Little People by Paige Dearth

Also got from Netgalley. Can use for the Emoji "read a 2016/2017 release" as it is a 2017 release.

Several of these can actually be used for more than one Emoji. Have you read any of these and enjoyed them? What do you hope to read in June? Are you participating in Emojiathon? :)

  1. I am going to switch Queens of Geek to "read a book about a marginalized group" and Cinnamon & Cigarettes to "read a romance/contemporary", because reasons, though they both work for both technically.

  2. Queens of Geek is so good!! I loved it, I hope you do too. I've also been wanting to read Food Wars. I need to see if my library has it. Looks like you have a good month of reading ahead!
