June 23rd to June 29th, 2019 Weekly Wrap Up

What I Finished Reading

Titles in this section link to my (sometimes fuller) reviews on Goodreads.

I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver 4.5⭐

A book I wish I had as a teenager, when I didn't feel like I fit into the girl box or the boy box, but I didn't know there were any other options. That what I was feeling wasn't wrong. That I wasn't alone in it. That I wasn't just awful at being a girl. Turns out, i'm non-binary. Do not call me a woman or a man. Or girl/boy. Or sister. Not sure how I feel about other words that are typically gendered just yet. Pronouns....are tricky only because I live with chronic pain and i'm always tired and in pain. The last thing I want to do is scream pronouns into an ether that refuses to listen. So They/She/He. Just please, please do not call me a woman or a girl.

You can call me Female if you're strictly talking about sex. Because yes, sex exists and as far as I know i'm Female. It's how the world sees me, treats me, and because of that many "women's issues" apply to me just the same. Also I have medical issues in relation to my sex so that's also a thing. Oh and heart attack symptoms differ between the sexes. Thought i'd throw out that little known but lethal fact out there. Because which symptoms are well known? Male ones, of course. This is why I state I am an Agender Female. Because both things matter. It can get complicated, I know that.

This book is so important. Ben comes out to their parents as non-binary, and gets kicked out. It hits hard topics and I really related to a lot of it. Coming out, misgendering, dysphoria, mental health. Depression, anxiety, panic attacks. Counseling (and how it can be positive...something younger me should've heard). My review on Goodreads (which the title links to) goes into more depth. I highly recommend this book.

Edited later: They/Them. My pronouns are they/them.

Currently Reading

Nothing actually. Not sure which book i'm picking up next other than something on my July TBR.

TV I Watched

MLP: Friendship is Magic Season 9 Episode 13 "Between Dark and Dawn", iZombie Season 5 episode's 6-8 and Siren Season 2 Episode's 7-8. Loved all of them.

Movies I Watched

Gremlins (1984) 5⭐
Saw II (2005) 5⭐
Austin Powers International Man of Mystery (1997) 3⭐
Austin Powers The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) 3⭐

Ok I watched that last one today before writing up this post, but whatever. The 90s haven't really aged well...and as a 90s kid that kinda sucks. But it is what it is. Really loved Gremlins and Saw II.

June 16th to June 22nd, 2019 Weekly Wrap Up

What I Finished Reading

Titles in this section link to my (sometimes fuller) reviews on Goodreads.

Fearful Fathoms: Collected Tales of Aquatic Terror edited by Mark Parker 2.71⭐

Anthology of "ocean horror" (apparently). Mostly duds. Few gems. Over-all, not impressed.

The Mueller Report: The Findings of the Special Counsel Investigation by Robert S. Mueller III 1⭐

The Main Character is completely unbelievable and a one-dimensional villian. Characters are too stupid to be real people. The plot is ridiculous. A horribly written dystopia. And all the good bits have been blacked out!

Bigfoot Crank Stomp by Erik Williams 3.5⭐

Lots of Trigger Warnings. A crazy wild ride. Very gross. Didn't love it. Didn't hate it. Idjits drop out of school to cook meth, keep a bigfoot locked in their cellar (for protection, I guess, against the meth heads in the turf that were there first that do come to kill them because competition) and bigfoot is addicted to meth. Chaos ensues. Found it an enjoyable enough read.

Midsummer: Rituals, Recipes & Lore for Litha by Deborah Blake 4⭐

A basic book about Midsummer, the Sabbat that is the day Summer officially begins.

Alone and Palely Loitering by Julian Stuart 5⭐

This short story managed to rip out my heart, give me all the feels, have me relating to the MC SO HARD (MC is ungendered and I am agender, also depression feels), crying tears of sadness and happiness.

Like I WANT TO SAY MORE but it's a short story and anything else I say WILL SPOIL IT. ASSUME NOTHING. I repeat, assume nothing. I has a new favorite. Now leave me be in my bucket of feels. <3 And I highly recommend this short story. Do read the author's note at the end too.

Lumberjanes, Vol. 1: Beware the Kitten Holy by Noelle Stevenson 3.5⭐

Cute. Girls camping. Supernatural things a-happening. Says screw gender roles. I did enjoy this first volume but I think it'll get better as it goes on, which I look forward to doing. Ripley is my favorite character already.

I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver

I recently came out as Nonbinary. This is about a Nonbinary teen who comes out to their parents and gets kicked out, so they go to live with their sister they haven't seen in a decade and their brother-in-law. I'm only 65 pages in and already have cried a lot and had to stop a number of times because of mental health reasons. As a disabled nonbinary and bisexual person...well i'm terrified of my (potential) future.

Of course i'm worried about stuff that may or may not happen but the worst case scenerio involves a long drawn out painful death from my medical issues. Or being shoved back into a closet. I am not a coat! I just want to be 100% me. I'm not hurting anyone by doing that. And be allowed to live until whenever my body decides to naturally give out (and not from a lack of medical care). Is that really so much to ask?

June 9th to June 15th, 2019 Weekly Wrap Up

What I Finished Reading

Titles in this section link to my (sometimes fuller) reviews on Goodreads.

Night of the Living Dummy 3 by R.L. Stine 4⭐

The last in the original Goosebumps series for the Living Dummy ones! As the first 2 it was very fun. Not much to say. Slappy is a dummy, and he's alive, and he's evil.

Red Rain by R.L. Stine 1.5⭐

I felt this was a poorly written Goosebumps book with boobs, sex, cheating, logic thrown out the window and some cliches mixed together and thrown around haphazardly. Much eye rolling. I actually DNF'd it at 300 pages (70%) because I couldn't force myself on anymore. It started out ok but just went downhill. I looked up spoilers and it did not seem worth it to force myself to continue something I was dreading. Sorry Stine. Also i'm happy for those that enjoyed it. I just couldn't.

Currently Actively Working On/Reading Next

I am nearly finished Fearful Fathoms, and am 15 out of 19 hours into The Mueller Report so I want to finish that up soon, and I need to start Bigfoot Crank Stomp next because i'm reading it for my group Creatures, Creatures Everywhere! this month.

TV I Watched

iZombie Season 5 Episode 4. I know i'm my usual 3 episodes behind. I also have seen this week that there are new episodes this month of Siren! The last episode I watched was season 2 episode 6, because I thought episode 8 was the last one until next year but seems I was wrong! :D So I need to get on that soon! I also watched MLP: Friendship is Magic Season 9 Ep 12 "The Last Crusade" and it was raining on my face. Happy pride!
